Window and Light Tinting Window tinting

Thin Laminate film is used to tint the window on the interior or exterior of vehicles, boats, and houses. The film is usually made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It’s a thermoplastic polymer, due to its clarity, strength, and ability it’s perfect for this.

There are different types of window films categorised by their components. It’s either dyed, metallized, or ceramic depending on its intended use in automotive, marine, or architectural.

Window Film has great applications in security. In the event when the window is damaged the film will hold the shards together. It will prevent the potential entry of an intruder. The tinted window can make it harder to see if there are any valuable items inside the building or vehicle. Window film has also proven to have its use in the military used. Tests have proved that strengthened film has good protection capabilities from the bullet and even explosions. Areas, where hurricanes cause havoc and disaster, can be used on shops and taller builders where it’s not possible for another type of protection.

Different types of window tint film

 Dyed window tint

Is the cheapest and most common type of window tinting film and is primarily used for appearance.

Dye blocks the light rays. Dyed window tint tends to fade in time, therefore film should be changed every two years. Solar heat that is prevented from entering inside is not significant therefore it’s not recommended in hot climate countries. Perfect for someone on a low budget who changes car every two years.

Ceramic Car window tint

Modern days non-metallic non dye ceramic window films are the highest grades of window films. This grade film cost even twice as much as a standard film but it can be 80% more effective than standard film in infrared radiation. A layer of dye between an adhesive layer that sticks to the window and a top coating that protects the film is a fantastic solution to prevent scrapes and scratches.

Metallised window film

This type of film has multiple layers. The base layer is adhesive used for sticking the film to the window. On top of adhesive goes the film that protects from UV. The protective layer is placed on the top surface to protect it from scratches. This type of film unlike other films doesn’t fade over time and can last for years. The only disadvantage is that metallised windows can interfere with radio antennas, phone signals, and even stop monitoring systems for the tires. It is much more expensive than other types of window film.

Shades of window tint film

The highest percentage of light that can go through the window tint is 50%. That means that only 50% of light can pass through this film.  This film is also referred to as light smoke. The most common shade all over the world is 30% tint. It is the most widely used shade percentage worldwide. This film is also known as smoke shade. Next in line is 20% tint. Its other name is medium or midnight shade. Only 20% light passes through therefore it’s perfect to use if there are screens fitted in the back of the vehicle. The last and the darkest type of tint Is 5%. It is used for extreme privacy and common name that is used Limo shade
